A Short History of Wedding Favours
The tradition of wedding favours started in the 16th Century when rich Europeans gave their guests gifts of 'sugared cubes' as a show of wealth.
The sugar was packaged in a bonbonniere - a box made of porcelain or crystal and since it was considered lucky to get married, the Bride & Groom hoped to bestow their luck on their female guests by the giving of bonbonniere (favours)!
As sugar became more affordable, the tradition became more widespread and the contents of the bonbonniere increased. Five sugared almonds or five sweets were contained inside the favours, each representing the good luck wishes from the Bride & Groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.
Recently the giving of good luck wishes in the form of five almonds has been replaced by alternatives such as truffles, lottery tickets, candles, seeds and plants!
Wedding favours can be supplied to fully co-ordinate with your wedding stationery, or alternatively if you'd like something completely different to your stationery there are hundreds of different designs, colours & themes and each can be embellished with countless styles & colours of flowers, ribbons, buckles...
